Carrier-induced ferromagnetism in p-Zn1ÀxMnxTe

چکیده
We present a systematic study of the ferromagnetic transition induced by the holes in nitrogen doped Zn12xMnxTe epitaxial layers, with particular emphasis on the values of the Curie-Weiss temperature as a function of the carrier and spin concentrations. The data are obtained from thorough analyses of the results of magnetization, magnetoresistance, and spin-dependent Hall effect measurements. The experimental findings compare favorably, without adjustable parameters, with the prediction of the Rudermann-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida ~RKKY! model or its continuous-medium limit, that is, the Zener model, provided that the presence of the competing antiferromagnetic spin-spin superexchange interaction is taken into account, and the complex structure of the valence band is properly incorporated into the calculation of the spin susceptibility of the hole liquid. In general terms, the findings demonstrate how the interplay between the ferromagnetic RKKY interaction, carrier localization, and intrinsic antiferromagnetic superexchange affects the ordering temperature and the saturation value of magnetization in magnetically and electrostatically disordered systems.

Carrier-concentration-induced ferromagnetism in PbSnMnTe.
The influence of charge-carrier concentration on the magnetic properties of the semimagnetic semiconductor [(PbTe)l-x(SnTe)x]l-y[MnTe]y (x=0.72, y=O.03) is reported. Magnetization, magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat have been measured. For carrier concentrations below p = 3 x 10 cm 3 the alloy is paramagnetic. For p ~ 3 x 1020 cm 3 an abrupt transition to a fer romagnetic phase is obse...
متن کاملMagnetic Circular Dichroism Studies of Carrier-Induced Ferromagnetism in Ga12xMnx As
Magnetic circular dichroism is used to investigate the evolution of ferromagnetism in the p-type magnetic semiconductor Ga12xMnx As. Local Mn moments and holes produce two spectroscopically distinct contributions, whose properties reveal an antiferromagnetic Mn-hole alignment in the ferromagnetic state. These components are present in both metallic and insulating samples with different temperat...

Taking into account both random impurity distribution and thermal fluctuations of localized spins, we have performed a model calculation for the carrier (hole) state in Ga1−xMnxAs by using the coherent potential approximation (CPA). The result reveals that a p-hole in the band tail of Ga1−xMnxAs is not like a free carrier but is rather virtually bounded to impurity sites. The carrier spin stron...

Two-dimensional nanostructures with controllable magnetic and electronic properties are desirable for their versatile applications in quantum devices. Here, we present a first-principles design on their magnetic and electronic switching controlled by tension. We find that hydrogenated VTe2 monolayer experiences a transfer from anti-ferromagnetism to ferromagnetism via a turning-point of paramag...
متن کاملTheory of Ferromagnetism in Diluted Magnetic Semiconductors
Carrier-induced ferromagnetism has been observed in several (III,Mn)V semiconductors. We review the theoretical picture of these ferromagnetic semiconductors that emerges from a model with kinetic-exchange coupling between localized Mn spins and valence-band carriers. We discuss the applicability of this model, the validity of a mean-field approximation for its interaction term widely used in t...
